Homemade Pizza Sauce

Homemade Pizza Sauce

Homemade Pizza Sauce

I love to make my own homemade pizza sauce. Not only is it super easy, it feels good to know you can make all parts of a pizza and know the ingredients. Unfortunately, it is so convenient to run to the store for an already prepared frozen pizza. I’m hoping that now more than ever, people are waking up to finding ways to making at least some of their food from scratch. Homemade pizza sauce is a great place to start. There are a variety of different ways I like to create the crust so I’ll dig into that in another blog post.

As mentioned in a previous blog, making your own paste is really easy with fresh tomatoes, it just takes a little time. The process is really simple, so I will list it here as well as on my other blog page.

For Homemade Paste:

Many of you will pass by this, because it is easy and inexpensive enough to just go ahead and buy paste from the store. The process is to slice fresh tomatoes (cherry tomatoes work great too!), sprinkle with your favorite seasoning such as oregano and salt. Then, dehydrate for approximately 4 hours or until try and crispy. Then blend them in a small mixer that powder-izes it. A small coffee grinder or a really good blender works well. Then, the most exciting part is this… 2 tablespoons of powder and 1 tablespoon of water, makes a little bit of paste! No more wasting cans of paste just for a few tablespoons of paste for your favorite recipe.

Instructions for Homemade Pizza Sauce:

  1. In a medium pot, heat the olive oil to medium low.
  2. Saute garlic gently for 3 or 4 minutes.
  3. Add fresh tomatoes, salt, basil, paste and oregano to pan and simmer slowly for 30 minutes.
  4. Add sugar halfway through cooking, to taste.
  5. Use a hand blender or immersion blender to mix.
