The Devil’s Beatitudes

The Devil’s Beatitudes

The Devil’s Beatitudes

A ministry we were associated with years ago, had the devil’s beatitudes printed on one of their handouts. It is listed like this (with a couple of modifications) and still being circulated today:

If the devil were to write his own beatitudes, they would possibly go something like this…

Blessed are those Christians who are too tired, too busy, too distracted to spend time with Jesus. They are my best candidates to backslide.

Blessed are those Christians, who wait to be asked and expect to be thanked, for I can use them to slow things down.

Blessed are those Christians who are touchy, with a bit of luck they may stop going to church and get others to quit. They are missionaries for me.

Blessed are those Christians who are very religious but get on everyone’s nerves. They are the most effective stumbling blocks for people trying to decide if they want to know more about God.

Blessed are those Christians who are troublemakers or cause strife. They are my best wrecking crew.

Blessed are those Christians, who have no time to pray. They are easy pray for me.

Blessed are those Christians who are complainers. They are my best discouragers.

Blessed are those those Christians, who are lazy and selfish.  They open the door of destruction to their faith and the faith of others… And my best weapons against Jesus

Blessed you when you read this and think it is about other people and not yourself you are my first choice!

Often the devil makes it easy to become like the world. We often don’t even realize how we are being perceived by those around us. However, we are saved by faith and not of works (Ephesians 4). It’s important to understand we can influence others by our actions. Therefore, stay away from the devil’s beatitudes and seek the real ones (Matthew 5:1-12).

The Real Beatitudes:

Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to Him, 2and He began to teach them, saying:

3Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted.

5Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth.

6Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness,

for they will be filled.

7Blessed are the merciful, for they shall be shown mercy.

8Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God.

9Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called the sons of God.

10Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.
John 10:10
