How to Make Simple Toilet Bowl Fizzies
This simple recipe for toilet bowl fizzies was based upon a post I saw a few weeks back on Living Well Mom. It is amazing to me how easy cleaning projects are to make! Cleaning toilets obviously isn’t fun, but, watching these fizz is kind of fun! It’s kind of like candy for your toilet, when you use these fun molds (pictured).
Just like preparing a meal, it really is good to know the ingredients that go into those products that we use daily or weekly in our home. In addition, this recipe is extremely budget friendly. Hopefully, you’ll see that all of these natural cleaners are easy and inexpensive.
Ingredients
- 1 cup baking soda
- 1/2 cup citric acid
- 10 drops peppermint essential oil (you do not need therapuedic grade oils for this recipe, but in case you need for other purposes, this is a good choice)
- 5 drops lavender essential oil
- 10 drops lemon essential oil
- 5 drops of tea tree
- distilled white vinegar and put into a spray bottle
- decorative or simple silicone mold
- a nice jar for storage
All the ingredients you need!
Instructions
1. In a medium size bowl, stir together baking soda and citric acid until well combined. This is important because if it isn’t combined well, all of the fizzies might not fizz. Some might fizz, but then others might not fizz.
2. Add the essential oils and stir to mix thoroughly. Metal whisk works great as it does a great job of breaking apart the drops of oil throughout the mixture.
3. Place vinegar in spray bottle and spritz baking soda mixture lightly. You will see a little bit of fizzing action, but it will stop. You do not want to soak it or you will cause the full fizzing reaction (baking soda + vinegar reaction) to occur too much and it won’t fizz later. Do you think I’m using the word “fizz” in this blog?
4. Continue spritz and stir (repeat 3 times) until it is just barely misted enough so that it sticks together when squeezed but not dripping. You want it to be moldable like wet sand.
5. Firmly press a handful of mixture into each of the molds. You may see them “grow” a bit from the vinegar + baking soda reaction as it dries.
6. Make sure to push them firmly into the mold to keep their shape. It will take a couple of hours for your toilet cleaner fizzies to fully dry. Let them sit over night before popping them out of the molds. The scent might be kind of strong so keep in mind when deciding where to dry. I dried mine in the bathroom.
Pop them out of the molds and store them in a jar…until you use them!! Happy toileting!
