Make Your Own Dish Soap

In continuation of creating/collecting recipes for all natural cleaning products for the home, this blog will be a recipe to
make your own dish soap.

My kitchen does not have a dishwasher. Not only do I not have room, but the original owners decided not to have one so there is just not a place for it. The woman who owned the house did her dishes by hand for over 30 years and didn’t plan on changing that part of her life! Imagine this, I had come from a house that had a brand new dishwasher so I wasn’t feeling so great about having to wash dishes by hand.

Here we are 5 years later, and I’m starting to feel differently about all of these modern conveniences. I tend to like feeling liking I’m living my simpler. So, now that I’m living without a dishwasher, it isn’t too bad. Turns out, it is a great time to think and talk to Jesus! Believe it or not, the husband helps and people who visit don’t seem to mind too much! At least that’s what they tell me.

Ingredients

I’ve decided my dishwashing time needs something special. That special thing is healthy ingredients for my dish soap and washing them in an old fashioned sink! Ok, so you probably don’t need an old fashioned sink to do the dishes but it sure makes it more fun!

For a complete list of ingredients that work great for your home, be sure to look here as well.

16-ounce glass soap dispenser* or really any container (but these work well)

1/2 cup lavendar or citrus castile soap

10 drops lemon essential oil  (I think it’s always a good idea to get a therapeutic grade quality oil especially if it used for dishes you eat off of)

10 drops orange essential oil

A tblsp of white vinegar

*According to Living Well, It is always best to use glass or stainless steel for any essential oil recipe. Over time essential oils can break down plastic and cause it to corrode. My dishsoap doesn’t last very long so I’ll just used an old container from another brand!

Place all of the ingredients together and mix. Don’t mix too fast because you obviously do not want it to be too sudsy in the bottle, but mix to evenly distribute the scents throughout the soap. And, that’s it! Can you believe how easy it is to have a healthy way to make your own dish soap?
