DIY Soft Scrub Recipe

This homemade cleaner is great for glass stovetops, bathtub rings and scum on surfaces. Often I need an extra cleaner that will clean up the glass top over water or food has boiled over the pan edge. This cleaning mixture has really been useful for me! Not only is it cost effective to make your own, the products work really well and we can make them smell however we want – which is awesome! This DIY soft scrub recipe works well on many surfaces.

My stovetop isn’t that glamorous, but it is still nice to keep it clean! Below is my stove top after I accidentally boiled some soup onto the glass top. I poured some cleanser onto the stove top, let it sit for a couple of minutes and used a green scrub to clean the surface. The cleaner removed the soup remains and the scrubber did not scratch. See the before and after below.

A Little Bit About the Scent

As mentioned in Cleanmyspace.com, when you’re using essential oils to create a cleaning product such as this diy soft scrub recipe, the ratio is likely 2 cups of liquid to 5 to 10 drops of your favorite essential oils for a subtle, pleasant scent while you’re cleaning. Therefore, if you want the scent to be much stronger, so that when you finish cleaning you can still smell it and you also want the beneficial properties from the essential oils, they recommend using 20 drops of the essential oils.

In my opinion, it is difficult to find a cleaning scrub that smells clean as well as fresh and still be healthy. Then, when I’ve bought some commercial cleaners in the past, I didn’t use them again so I feel like I’ve wasted my money. Often cleaners not only smell like chemicals, but too often they don’t work. This recipe is cost effective as well as safe for your family.

DIY soft scrub uses ingredients you probably already have!

Ingredients

These are the ingredients I used for my soft scrub recipe.

1/2 cup baking soda

4-5 Tablespoons of dishwashing liquid

4 Tablespoons of hydrogen peroxide

10-20 drops of essential oil (optional) or lemon juice (keep in mind lemon juice may foam up a little and change the texture. Feel free to add if needed.

That’s it! Mix it together and use as needed.

The consistency of the cleaner is a lot like Softscrub, but it can change a little if you use an actual lemon instead of the essential oils.

paste in a jar to show consistency
