Healthy Turmeric Latte Recipe

There is more to this turmeric latte recipe than it’s amazing taste…it’s healthy! Often we having a craving for something more than a cup of coffee, or in my case, another cup of hot chocolate.

Benefits of Turmeric and Ginger

The benefits of this healthy turmeric latte (sometimes referred to as Golden Milk) are endless. The subtitle of this blog is linked to a source  that claims turmeric is a mood booster! Not to mention it can possibly improve memory. Both turmeric and ginger together could improve digestion.

Anti-inflammatory effects of tumeric may reduce joint pain from osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

Curcumin is the element of turmeric this source talks about. For example, one study in 45 people with rheumatoid arthritis found that 500 milligrams of curcumin daily reduced joint pain more than 50 grams of a common arthritis drug or a combination of curcumin and the drug (11Trusted Source).

Ginger and turmeric tubers look similar. If you are using fresh ginger or turmeric, feel free to us a shredder instead of chopping. Alternatively, chopping may work also. If you chop just be sure to blend a little longer. Generally, turmeric is used in more savory dishes, such as bone broth. In this particular drink, we use it for a sweeter drink.

From a taste perspective both ingredients are wonderful and unique. However, their benefits are similar or work together nicely. Terry Naturally does a wonderful job describing and tying together all of the wonderful information for turmeric. I highly recommend checking him out. One of his products is CuraMed, a wonderful supplement to my husbands daily or weekly schedule.

Ingredients:

2 cups milk of choice (such as almond, walnut, hemp or pumpkin seed, or raw milk)

1/2 tsp turmeric powder or 1 tsp of shredded tumeric

½ tsp cinnamon

a small amount of cocao nibs

pinch of ground black pepper

¼ tsp ground ginger or small half-inch piece peeled ginger root

pinch of cayenne pepper

2 dates

1 tsp raw honey or maple syrup or to taste optional

Start by heating up the milk to a warm temperature, being careful not to boil. I like to heat up the turmeric at this point as well. When heated to the temperature just below boiling, transfer all ingredients to a blender. Blend for 30 seconds. If you would like, you may return all to the stove to continue heating after blending, just know that the nutrient content could diminish the more you heat and reheat. Speaking of temperature, however, this recipe tastes great cold as well. After heating and blending all of the ingredients together, you may chill for a few hours and pour over ice. Simply delicious!
